Lake Kwada Hunting and Fishing Reserve

The Lake Kwada Hunting and Fishing Reserve is a protected freshwater and wetland landscape in Haut-Lomami Province, southern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Centered around Lake Kwada, the reserve safeguards aquatic ecosystems and surrounding savanna–wetland transition zones that are vital for fish reproduction, birdlife, and wildlife dependent on permanent water sources. Its designation as both a hunting and fishing reserve reflects a management model focused on regulated use, biodiversity protection, and sustainable resource stewardship. Lake Kwada is ecologically important for freshwater and fisheries conservation, birdlife protection especially wetland and migratory species, watershed regulation and seasonal flood control, and climate resilience through intact wetland systems.
