Ngandja Nature Reserve

The Ngandja Nature Reserve is a little-known yet ecologically important protected area located in central DRC, within the broader Congo Basin forest belt. The reserve was established to safeguard intact lowland rainforest ecosystems and biodiversity in a region facing increasing pressure from land-use change. Ngandja plays a strategic role as a biodiversity buffer, helping maintain ecological continuity between central Congo forest landscapes and surrounding conservation areas. Although less publicized than other reserves, Ngandja contributes quietly but critically to national conservation objectives. The reserve is important for protection of Congo Basin rainforest biodiversity, forest connectivity between central DRC ecosystems, carbon storage and climate regulation, watershed protection supporting downstream communities, and baseline biodiversity monitoring in an under-documented region.
