Butahu–Hululu Total Game Reserve

The Butahu–Hululu Total Game Reserve is a strictly protected wildlife reserve located in North Kivu Province, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Positioned within the Albertine Rift conservation zone, one of Africa's most biodiverse regions, the reserve safeguards critical habitats under a total protection regime, limiting access to conservation and scientific purposes only. Butahu–Hululu plays a key role in protecting eastern Congo's montane ecosystems, which host high levels of endemism and are essential for regional ecological stability. The reserve is vital for protection of Albertine Rift biodiversity including endemic and threatened species, wildlife corridor preservation between montane and lowland ecosystems, watershed protection feeding Lake Edward and the Congo Basin, and climate regulation and carbon storage through intact forest cover.
