One of the key integral reserves in the Kasaï region
Intact savanna–forest mosaic landscapes
Extremely low human footprint
High value for long-term ecological baselines
Reference ecosystem for conservation planning
Protection of wildlife corridors in central DRC
The Tshikamba Integral Game Reserve is a strictly protected conservation area in Kasaï Province, central Democratic Republic of the Congo. As an integral game reserve, Tshikamba is designated primarily for ecosystem preservation, wildlife protection, and scientific research, with human access kept to an absolute minimum. The reserve protects representative central Congo savanna–forest transition ecosystems, which are increasingly rare due to land-use pressure and habitat fragmentation. Tshikamba is essential for long-term biodiversity preservation, baseline ecological and climate research, protection of wildlife corridors in central DRC, and carbon storage and ecosystem resilience.
