Oshwe Hunting Domain

The Oshwe Hunting Domain is a large protected conservation landscape in Mai-Ndombe Province, western Democratic Republic of the Congo. Influenced by the hydrological systems of Lake Mai-Ndombe and the greater Congo Basin, Oshwe is characterized by vast wetlands, forest corridors, and savanna–forest transition zones that support rich biodiversity and critical ecosystem services. Oshwe plays a vital role in wetland conservation and watershed protection within the Congo Basin. Its ecosystems help regulate water cycles, store carbon, and sustain wildlife adapted to seasonal flooding. The domain is also strategically important for community-based conservation and climate-resilient land management in Mai-Ndombe.
