Ekolo Ya Bonobo Reserve (Rewilding)

Ekolo Ya Bonobo ('Bonobo Territory' in Lingala) is a groundbreaking rewilding project that releases rescued bonobos from Lola ya Bonobo sanctuary back into protected rainforest in Mai-Ndombe Province. This is the world's first large-scale bonobo rewilding initiative, giving orphaned bonobos a second chance at wild freedom. The 20,000-hectare reserve provides a safe environment for bonobos to redevelop natural behaviors and form wild communities. This conservation project represents hope for bonobo recovery.
