Mount Kahuzi (Sud-Kivu)

Mount Kahuzi is an extinct volcano rising to 3,308 meters and one of the two peaks that give Kahuzi-Biéga National Park its name. The mountain is covered in montane and cloud forest and offers challenging but rewarding summit treks. The climb takes 4-6 hours through different vegetation zones, from bamboo forests to alpine meadows. Summit views on clear days reveal Lake Kivu, other Virunga volcanoes, and endless rainforest. The mountain is part of the Albertine Rift endemic bird area.
