DRC Business Visa
A DRC business visa is for meetings, negotiations, site visits, conferences and investor travel. In addition to the standard file, it requires an invitation letter from a registered company in the DRC and a letter from your own employer setting out the purpose and duration of the trip.
Business travel to the Democratic Republic of the Congo — mining and energy site visits, investor missions, supplier meetings, conferences — is handled under the business visa category.
The distinguishing requirement is the invitation: a Congolese company registered locally must invite you and take responsibility for the purpose of the visit.
Who needs a business visa
- Executives and delegations attending meetings or negotiations.
- Investors and advisers conducting site visits or due diligence.
- Technical staff installing, inspecting or commissioning equipment.
- Conference and trade fair attendees.
Documents specific to business travel
- Invitation letter from a registered Congolese company, with its registration details, the purpose of the visit and the dates.
- Letter from your employer confirming your role, the purpose of travel and who covers the costs.
- Company registration extract of the inviting entity where the mission requests it.
- Standard file: passport valid six months, forms, photographs, yellow fever certificate, accommodation, return ticket and proof of funds.
Urgent and short-notice travel
Short-notice business travel is common, and where an embassy appointment is not available in time the alternative is an entry authorisation arranged in the DRC with a visa issued on arrival. That route requires a sponsor in-country and is explained on the visa on arrival page.
What a business visa does not cover
A business visa is not a work permit. Taking up paid employment or a long-term posting in the DRC requires a separate work authorisation obtained through your employer.
