Watalinga Hunting Domain

The Watalinga Hunting Domain is a protected conservation landscape in North Kivu, located along the Beni–Semliki corridor near the western foothills of the Ruwenzori Mountains. This domain lies within a highly dynamic ecological transition zone linking Albertine Rift ecosystems with the broader Congo Basin, creating exceptional habitat diversity across savannas, riverine forests, and wetlands. Watalinga plays a strategic role in ecological connectivity between Virunga–Ruwenzori systems and lowland Congo landscapes. Its position along major river valleys supports watershed protection, seasonal wildlife movement, and biodiversity resilience in eastern DRC. The domain also serves as an important buffer landscape complementing nearby strictly protected areas.
