Gungu Hunting Domain

The Gungu Hunting Domain is a protected conservation landscape in Kwilu Province, western Democratic Republic of the Congo. Situated within a broad forest–savanna transition zone, Gungu is shaped by open plateaus, woodland mosaics, and river corridors that support diverse wildlife and provide essential ecosystem services across the Kwilu basin. Gungu plays a strategic role in western Congo's ecological connectivity, linking forested Congo Basin environments with western savannas. Its landscapes contribute to watershed protection, biodiversity resilience, and climate regulation, while its hunting-domain status enables regulated conservation management aligned with community-based land stewardship.
