A Congo River expedition begins with an objective: cultural travel, photography, research, conservation or private exploration. The route follows from that objective, not the other way around.
## Build the route carefully
Confirm arrival points, river sections, local transport, overnight arrangements and current permissions. Different sections require different vessels, crews and time allowances. Seasonal water and weather conditions affect what is feasible.
## Plan the support system
A responsible brief covers food and water, communications, first aid, medical escalation, insurance, community protocols and alternatives if conditions change. Wildlife encounters are never guaranteed.
## Allow time
Short Kinshasa-area river experiences differ greatly from multi-day journeys toward Kisangani or remote protected landscapes. Do not book fixed onward travel until the route has been locally assessed.
