“Congo Basin” describes a watershed and ecological region. “Democratic Republic of Congo” describes a sovereign country, often shortened to DRC. “Republic of Congo” is a separate country whose capital is Brazzaville. Not every Congo Basin journey enters the DRC, and not every DRC itinerary is a rainforest expedition.
