Luama Kivu Total Game Reserve

The Luama Kivu Total Game Reserve is a high-protection wildlife reserve located in South Kivu Province, eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Part of the wider Luama conservation landscape, this reserve protects ecologically sensitive ecosystems linked to the Albertine Rift, one of Africa's most important biodiversity hotspots. As a Total Game Reserve, Luama Kivu is designated for strict wildlife protection, allowing only controlled access for conservation, scientific research, and environmental education. The reserve plays a critical role in biodiversity protection within the Albertine Rift, wildlife corridor preservation between montane and lowland ecosystems, watershed protection for river systems feeding Lake Tanganyika, and climate regulation and carbon storage through intact forest cover.
