Kundelungu Plateau Hunting Domain

The Kundelungu Plateau Hunting Domain occupies the vast Kundelungu Plateau of southeastern DRC, a spectacular highland landscape characterized by rolling savannas, dramatic escarpments, and some of the largest waterfalls in Central Africa. Lying adjacent to the well-known Kundelungu National Park, this hunting domain forms an essential buffer and transition landscape, extending protection across the plateau ecosystem. Kundelungu Plateau plays a critical role in protecting high-altitude savanna ecosystems unique to southern Congo. Its plateaus regulate regional hydrology, feed major river systems, and support biodiversity adapted to open grasslands and seasonal climates. The domain strengthens conservation outcomes by reducing pressure on strictly protected areas and enabling landscape-scale ecological management.
