    Overview

The Boyoma Falls (historically known as Stanley Falls) represent one of the world's great natural wonders—seven cataracts stretching 100 kilometers along the Congo River. But more remarkably, the Wagenia people have fished these powerful waters for centuries using ingenious wooden scaffolding systems. This journey takes you to Kisangani, the city at the heart of the Congo, to witness the Wagenia fishing tradition and explore the historical significance of this strategic location. The falls marked the furthest navigable point on the Congo River, making Kisangani a crucial trading post throughout history. You'll see the traditional fishing platforms (still in active use), learn about Wagenia culture, and understand why this location has been so important throughout Congolese and African history.
